The most watched Nigerian Channels on YouTube in 2013 were AYTVAYTV, Channelsweb, Yorubamagic, mynaijalove and TVNolly.

The others were: nollywood5star, ndaniTV, DavidoHKNTV, and officialiyanya.

Mr. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, the Communication and Public Affairs Manager, Google Anglophone West Africa disclosed this Friday.

He said that in 2012, YouTube views in Nigeria increased by 125 per cent, while the number of video uploads grew by 50 per cent.

He said that though the figures for 2013 were not yet available, that the available figures indicate that Nigerians were finding inspiration and entertainment on the YouTube platform.

YouTube is a video-sharing website created in February 2005 by three Americans and owned by Google since late 2006, on which users can upload, view and share videos.

Unregistered users can watch videos on YouTube, while registered users can upload an unlimited number of videos.

According to Kola-Ogunlade, since its launch in 2005, YouTube had made it possible for people with great ideas and creative streaks to turn their ideas into compelling videos.

He said that these videos could both attract a global following and even millions of views.

The Google official commended Nigerian content creators on YouTube, urging them to keep up their good work.

He said Nigerians who produce the YouTube videos, are determining a popular culture like never before.

He said that the popular videos all had contents that were entertaining, informative in some way, and come from a channel with more videos like it.

Kola-Ogunlade added that the popular channels were also something worth sharing with other people.

He gave them tips on taking their content to the next level, saying that they should love what they do as this was key to success.

Kola-Ogunlade also urged the content creators to structure their contents and keep it consistent; hone their camera and editing skills and grow their viewer base by interacting with their viewers.
