French Ligue 2 club CA Bastia have secured the signature of Nigeria international Sunday Mba from Warri Wolves.

Though the financial details were yet to be released by the club, allnigeriasoccer.com reports that the 25-year-old midfielder will remain in Corsica until June 30, 2015.

It is thought there is an escape clause inserted into the contract signed on Thursday evening that would enable the Nigerian walk away as a free agent should the club lose their second-tier status at the end of the current season. Mba will earn less than 10,000 euros a month at CA Bastia.

He is in good physical condition as he was training with the domestic Eagles before his trip to France. Other things being equal, he will make his official debut on January 10 against Niort.

The 25-year-old, who was Nigeria’s hero in last January’s Africa Cup of Nations final victory over Burkina Faso, had tried to sign for the Corsican side last transfer window, but an inability to fulfill the player’s wage requirements at that time meant that the Mba was forced to wait until the New Year.

The club, who have also signed defender Clement Fabre on loan, will be counting on Mba to help them make up the difference in the second half of the season to secure their second-tier position once again.

CA Bastia are rock bottom in the French second tier with a miserly nine points from 18 matches, six points adrift of second from bottom Nimes. FC Metz lead the standings with 39 points.
