The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has directed its state branches to inaugurate disciplinary committees to ensure discipline among members.

This directive is contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the directive is in accordance with the provisions of Section 57(1) (2) of the party’s Constitution as amended.

The statement said the directive was part of efforts by the party to ensure discipline and loyalty at all levels of the party.

“The committees are to strictly comply with the provisions of the PDP constitution and the principles of equity and fair hearing in dealing with all disciplinary cases at their various levels.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the party had on 24 October inaugurated a seven-man National Disciplinary Committee to ensure discipline among party members across the federation.

National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, had explained that Dikko was picked because of his love for the rule of law and defence of democracy.

Dikko, on his part, assured that the committee would do everything possible to move the party forward and ensure discipline among party members.

Chief Ebenezer Babatope is the Deputy Chairman of the committee, while Mr Onwe Onwe will serve as its Secretary.

Other members of the committee include Hajiya Nana Aishat-Quadir, Alhaji Hussaini Duraki, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Dikko was one of the advisers and Minister of Transport in former President Shehu Shagari’s administration in the second republic.

He played prominent roles as transport minister and head of the Presidential Task Force on Rice in that administration.

Dikko, born in 1936, fled to London on self-exile after the military coup of 31 December, 1983, which overthrew the Shagari government.
