Fashola Applauds Standard Of Governor's Cup

Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), has applauded the quality of talents at the just concluded 13th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship.

Fashola, who presented the trophy to Croatia’s Ante Pavic, winner of the men’s singles of Futures 2 of the tournament sponsored by Etisalat Nigeria and FCMB Plc. at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, said that the International Tennis Federation, ITF, approved competition has improved tremendously in standard as emerging tennis players across the world have now found Lagos as a destination point to hone their skills, win prize monies and improve their ranking in the world rankings.

“I’ve been following the tournament since it started and I’m happy to say that the Governor’s Cup has improved in quality with the quality of players coming to Lagos for the competition,” Fashola said.

“I want to also commend the organisers for being consistent with good organisation of the tourney.”

Meanwhile, Martins Abamu has won the inaugural Governor’s Cup Junior Tennis Championship by overpowering Michael Osewa in two straight sets of 4-1,6-4 while twin sisters, Destiny and Essence Martins slugged it out in the female category but it was Destiny who won 1-4,4-2,10-5.
