Glo Brings U.S. Comedians To Lagos For LaftaFest

Top American stand-up comedians, Tony Roberts and Deeray Davis have arrived Lagos, Nigeria in readiness for their star performances at this weekend’s Glo Mega LaftaFest, a superb comedy show tagged “Invasion LOL” and being sponsored by Globacom.

The duo breezed into Lagos  from the United States at about 3 p.m. Thursday and they were received by top comedian and Glo ambassador, Basketmouth, with support from top executives of the leading telecommunications company.

“I feel different. I have been to a lot of countries but I feel special coming to Lagos, Nigeria. I thought it’s going to be hard on arrival but I tell you, things are really blooming. I feel happy and blessed to be here. I am ready to blow many people’s mind come Saturday,” Roberts, star of HBO’s Def Jam comedy told P.M.NEWS Entertainment Cafe on arrival.

“It’s good to be here in Nigeria. I am coming to show to my family here what they have never seen about me on television and movies. I don’t want to make this my last trip here, I want to create a long lasting impression through the show so that I can come back here time and time again,” added Davis.

The two stars on Saturday, 19 October, will be sharing the stage at the New Expo Centre of the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, with two of Africa’s foremost comedians, Ndumiso from South Africa and Salvado from Uganda.

The foursome will also join Nigeria’s best stand-up comedy acts and musicians. Other top-rated comedians billed to perform at the shows to be hosted by Basketmouth include Ali Baba, Bovi, Okey Bakassi, Akpororo, I Go Dye, Klint de Drunk, Buchi, Gordons, Funny Bone, Bash, Emeka Smith, Julius Agwu and Sim Card.

The comedy sessions will be spiced with the best of Nigerian music with first class acts such as PSquare, Lagbaja,  Flavour, Wande Coal, MI, Omawunmi, Burna Boy, Naeto C, Waje, Lynxx and Chee ready to entertain guests at different intervals during the show.

“The practice has always been for Nigerian artistes to travel abroad to perform while these foreign acts hardly come to perform in Nigeria. So, this is a big plus to Globacom, a company that has done so much to promote entertainment in this country,” said Basketmouth on the coming comedy show.

Globacom said it is putting the show together as part of activities marking its 10th anniversary. It is also to demonstrate that there is no limit to the extent its numerous subscribers can go and give Nigerians a comic treat of a lifetime at the show also scheduled for Abuja on 26 October.

The show will also be held at the Rochas Convention Centre, Owerri on 3 November, Aztech Arcum Centre, Port Harcourt on 10 November, Best Western Hotel, Benin City on 17 November, Golden Royale Hotel, Enugu on 24 November and Nkweagu Ugbala Convention Centre, Abakaliki on 1 December.
