Nigeria’s PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday said it was making consultations to resolve the issue of the parallel PDP that emerged on 31 August.
Mr Olisa Metuh, who was re-elected as the party`s National Publicity Secretary at its just concluded Special National Convention, stated this in Abuja.
He told newsmen at the end of the party`s NWC meeting that consultations were going on at very high level to address the situation.
According to him, the response so far is encouraging and the party will convey the outcome of the consultations to the public in due time.
“Consultation is going on at the very highest level of the party, the President, the party`s National Chairman, the Chairman of the Board of Trustee (Bot) and PDP Governors are meeting on this.
“Their discussion had been very encouraging, at the appropriate time we will communicate to the media the decisions therein,’’ Metuh said.
He further said that meetings on the issue would continue on Sept. 3 and that the public would be communicated “the reasons behind the decisions immediately’’ after the meeting.
Metuh said that, meanwhile, Dr Remi Akintoye would remain the party`s Acting National Secretary as long as there was no court order restraining him from functioning as such.
He described the convention that brought him in a second time as the best ever organised by the party.
He said that the party for the first time elected a 30-year-old man into its highest decision making organ as National Youth Leader.
“What it means, is that the party is responsive to the yearnings of youths and is thinking about their future and wants to accommodate them as leaders of tomorrow in planning for today,’’ Metuh said.
He pledged the resolve of the newly-elected NWC members to remain focused and united with the party`s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and the party`s leadership to ensure its success.
“There will not be any rancour or division, the party will remain united.
“We have only one chairman and we will abide by his decisions, the decisions of the NWC and the party`s constitution.“
On the crises in the Anambra, Taraba and Adamawa states chapters of the party, Metuh said that the party leadership was doing everything possible to address them.
According to him, the newly-elected NWC members would serve for a period of four years according to the party`s constitution.
