Nigerians must take over the ownership of the means of production of their economy and not allow foreign multinationals to enjoy all the benefits, South Africa’s radical activist, Julius Malema, said on Monday, as he visits Nigeria for the first time.

Malema, who is meeting with Prophet T.B. Joshua in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, said Nigerian leaders and youths must agitate for economic independence and not allow the “imperialist forces” to plough all their mineral resources and leave them in squalor.

He said Nigerian leaders should create economic programmes that will create jobs and they should involve the youths.

“Instead of fighting for jobs, let’s fight for opportunities,” Malema said in an interview with our correspondent.

He said Nigeria and South Africa must cooperate economically and build friendship to move Africa forward.

“We need to work together on issues of common interest, we need to be partners not only in growing the Nigerian-South African economies, but in building friendship,” he said.

Malema denied allegations that Nigerians are often maltreated in South Africa, saying Nigerians in South Africa are very influential and confident.

“Nigerians in South Africa are enjoying themselves. They are very influential. They relate confidently in the society and even when there were some xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Nigerians were not casualty of such xenophobic attacks,” Malema said.

Malema will be at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, until Saturday 16 August.

He said he chose to go to visit TB Joshua because he is a true man of God.
