Akwa Ibom pays for life-changing treatment for deaf kids

Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom state Government plans to sponsor five deaf children from the state to India for life-changing treatment.

Governor Godswill Akpabio stated this when the Managing Director of Primus International Super Speciality Hospital, India, Mr. Nitin Dewan paid him a courtesy visit at Governor’s Office, Uyo.

He said the successful treatment of the children would convince Akwa Ibom people on the need for the state to partner with the Indian hospital.

Governor Akpabio therefore directed the state Commissioner of Health to select five children born deaf and send them to Primus Super Speciality Hospital, India for treatment.

He further said that the state government would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for surgeons from the hospital to assist in the specialist hospital being built in Itam, Uyo.

Primus Super Speciality Hospital is a private hospital in India, with plans to have centres in Cairo and Abuja.

Mr. Dewan, who was accompanied by Chief Research Officer of the hospital, Pinto Jayraj and International Business Development Officer, Ramech Chaudhary, said their visit to the state was to enable them contribute in the health sector of the state.
