Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has approved the application by three political parties, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, and the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, to merge into one, to be known as the All Progressives Congress.

This approval was communicated to newsmen in Abuja in a statement signed by Abdullahi A. Kaugama, Secretary to the Commission.

Part of the statement reads, “On considering the application, the Commission found that the applicant-parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger, and has accordingly granted their request

Consequently, the Commission has approved the withdrawal of the individual certificates of the applicant-parties, and the issuance of a single certificate to the All Progressives Congress”

This approval brings to a conclussion the raging battles by various political bodies seeking to be registered as political arties under the acronym of APC.

Some of these bodies emerged after the ACN, ANPP and CPC had reached an agreement over the name of their alliance.

The emergence of the APC clones also fueled speculations that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may have inspired their formation to frustrate the registration of the authentic APC and prevent the threat the opposition party poses to its continued dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Thank God, Nigeria democracy is growing positively, kudos to Jega, INEC and all politisians who made sacrifices to make this a reality.(

  6. There is nothing to cerebrate for. Politicians are birds of same feather and as crocodile, they cannot change their colour even though they change their name a hundred time.

  7. Bile Samaila

This is a flagrant violation of fundamental right of African People Congress who first indicated interest to register with the same acronym. They are going to court to challenge this illegality of the highest order.

  13. There is nothing to celebrate yet, this romance by strange bedfellows with the sole aim of grabbing power will lead to no where. When tyrants and dictators in their individual parties come together, there will be more problems to tackle. Let’s just watch and see how far they can go.

My guy, we are moving in positive direction, the approval of APC is a clear indication that Presidency can not arm-twist INEC into doing it’s bid as they used to do under OBJ-IWU. that is good for our democracy. Well done Prof.Jega. We are praying for a credible election come 2015 so that peoples votes can count and politician can begin to imbibe the right attitude and respect the electorates.

A party of past leaders who have been recognized for their penchant for stealing public funds and anti people credentials. The game has just started and we are all in it. They will soon expose their greed and Nigerians will see for a truth that Tinubu, Ikimi and their likes can never be trusted. Jonathan is working and will win come 2015.

  15. Agboola Ademola

This is good news. Let all politicians from the 3 political parties in APC put personal interests aside & allow Maj. Gen. Buhari to be their Presidential Candidate come 2015. Nigeria will be better for it. What this country needs now is a politician with a high sense of commitment, trust, discipline &effeciency. These are d sources of all our problems in Nigeria. If some1 is disciplined ,he/she will shun corruption, avoid Cyber crime or dealing drugs. Policemen will stop taking bribes while performing their official duties unlike what happened in Cross River State.During his regime, it was #1 naira to a dollar. no country(s) toyed with Nigerians either home or abroad. But to most of d other politicians ,it’s business as usual in terms of gross corruption. Afterall many American presidents have had military backgrounds.Buhari has done it before&will do it again if given d chance. He no doubt made some mistakes before like any human but d proportion is minimal&pardonable compared 2 wt d PDP govt has turned ds country into. He&idiagbon did nt promote themselves alongside nt even creating unnecessary offices wt d guise 2 foster corrupt vices unlike babangida, abacha, abdusalam, obasanjo&jonathan’s administration.

I WISH TO CONGRATULATE APC FOR THEIR IMPENDING DOOM.
NO AMOUNT OF NAME CHANGE UNDER ANY GUISE WILL GIVE U POWER IN 2015.
NIGERIANS DON’T WANT CROOKS AND BUNCH OF DICTATORS AT THE HELMS OF AFFAIRS COME 2015.
NIGERIAN KNOWS BETTER AND NO AMOUNT OF PROPAGANDA WILL CHANGE THEIR MIND.
SO, ALL YOU PEOPLE JUBILATING, SHOULD WAIT TILL 2015 TO SEE HOW APC WILL FALL FLAT.
IT’S A SHAME THAT SOME OF US HAVE NOT LEARN’T OUR LESSONS…WE ARE BEING BLINDED BY RELIGIOUS AND TRIBAL SENTIMENTS.

  17. Fred

All we need is good leaders and good followers. God bless nigeria.

  18. Al-miskeen

At last, the progressive has emerged victorious… I believe this is the beginning of a new dawn for our nation, at least the next generation may have hope, that the stolen mandate of the visionaries will come to stay. Let every single Nigeria fight for the course, That is CHANGE. Prof. Attiharu Jega may God almighty redefine your way unto prosperity, Asiwaju bola ahmed Tinubu (sir), this is a collective battle for all, Strive for the best candidacy to lead us unto prosperity, Gen Mohammed buhari put all things to Allah to guard us all. I ve a dream that Europeans, America will come in there millions to contribute positively to our state. Long live NIGERIA, long live APC.

  19. my Question goes to u all….can a goat begat a lion ??? Can a lizard turn to a Crocodie ??? Can a warm become a serpent ??? Can a sheep become over night an horse ???…Do not be decive evil men ‘ll always remain evil…They all are evil ok…APC, PDP or what ever u may called their name….They just want to remove the old cloth and put on a new cloth so that men ‘ll not know them….But for me Michael Abidjan non of them is clean…They ‘re only after their own interest and their family ok…Dont mind them…Vote for any party u feel like….Michael Abidjan

  20. Oche Adakole

Congrats to all progressives. We pray and hope this will add value to our democracy and put an end to one party dominance as well as enhance good governance and politics of sound ideas.

  21. Who are the people in the other party that led Nigeria to where we are today, are they not the one moving to APC now? Let’s wait and see.
