Nigeria’s League Management Committee (LMC) has suspended Rangers players Seun Taro and Pierre Coly indefinitely for assaulting a referee.

Taro was only recently with the Nigeria U-20 team on a training tour of Egypt and Tunisia, while Senegalese central defender Coly signed for the Enugu club for this season.

The players were found guilty of assaulting the centre referee Audu Ahmed Ibrahim, who handled a Week 3 match between home team Rangers and Warri Wolves which ended in a goalless draw.

Executive secretary of the League Management Committee (LMC) Tunji Babalola said that the board took the decision to send a warning signal to other players in the league, adding that the board is serious about organising a league that will be envy of other countries in all ramifications.

“The players don’t have any right or moral justification to attack or assault referee. The Rangers players Seun Taro and Pierre Coly have been suspended indefinitely for their act of indiscipline by assaulting match official,” Babalola said in a statement.

Their suspensions will begin from Week 5 fixture when Enugu Rangers will host Kwara United.
