You are one of the youngest in the Super Eagles squad. How do you feel about winning the Nations Cup, emerging as the Samsung Fair Play winner for the tournament and also your inclusion in Africa’s best XI?

It was an amazing feeling for me to get such praise within a short time of joining the Eagles. I will continue to give my best knowing that I will be rewarded one day. Being part of the team that emerged as African champions is a very big honour for me and the rest of the team. I am very grateful.

How was the reception at Chelsea when you returned from the Nations Cup?

Everybody was happy for me and Obi (Mikel) the feeling was very good. It was a very wonderful experience.

Nigeria will be playing against Kenya on Saturday, how prepared are you against a likely physical Harambee Stars?

We know that every African country is strong. We played at the AFCON and we know what to expect anyway. It won’t be an easy game but we are looking forward to it and hopefully we can get the three points at stake.

It means a lot to me and not just me but to the other players in the team. Now we are African champions and every country is going to want to beat you but we are looking forward to it.

Are you assuring the fans that there is not going to be any form of complacency as you are now African Champions?

We can never do that. Everybody is looking in good shape in training but it is not going to be an easy game. The only way we won the Nations Cup was by playing as a team and we have to keep the momentum going on Saturday.

Briefly, let’s look at your Chelsea career. You seem to have broken into the main squad since the arrival of Rafa Benitez. How does it feel?

Yeah I’m really enjoying my football at Chelsea in England, it is a great club and enjoying every single bit of it. Every time I am on the pitch I want to do my best for my teammates and for the squad.
