Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka will today be named the first recipient of the Awolowo Prize for Leadership.
He will receive the prize at a ceremony today, Wednesday, on Victoria Island, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
The prize was instituted by the Awolowo Foundation.
In a congratulatory message to Soyinka, the government and people of Osun State said the prize “is a crowning glory, for you have done the Black race the honour of winning the Nobel prize (in 1986) while your life remains a source of inspiration to the younger generation. You exemplify all that Awolowo preached and practised in leadership.”
