Ayo Animashaun Plans Big For Headies

Plans are already under way for the 2013 edition of The Headies, Nigeria’s leading music awards. Ayo Animashaun, CEO, Smooth Promotions, the producers of the awards, announced this 30 January.

Animashaun told P.M.NEWS Entertainment Café that the award, in its eighth year, has been a runaway success.

“With giant strides in content development and production, event coordination and execution, creativity, innovation and originality, which have all become a constant attribute to our awards, we need to tighten our preparation. This year promises to be bigger than the past seven editions in all ramifications as relates to entertainment in this part of the globe. International acts who are being contacted at the moment have shown positive interests so far,” he said.

Animashaun also revealed that pre-awards activities will kick-off with a workshop of music industry practitioners, followed by a series of the usual–press conference, nominees’ parties, The Veterans’ Night, an event to celebrate the golden age of Nigerian music and its pioneers, Help The Children, the CSR Initiative of The Headies to support Nigerian Children, and more.

DJ Jimmy Jatt, head of the awards’ screening team stated that The Headies “is continuously going to be an awards for the music industry by the industry.”

He revealed that his team has shortlisted 75 names, which include those of record label executives, music practitioners, sound engineers, music promoters and music journalists to vote and screen the entries eligible to be nominated in the year in review, the vote will be submitted online to an international audit firm before it is announced.
