Jonathan: Attitude not corruption Nigeria’s challenge  print

Published on December 29, 2012 by   ·   23 Comments

President Goodluck Jonathan claimed today that Nigeria’s biggest challenge to good governance is not corruption, but the attitude of Nigerians.

Jonathan submitted this theory today in Yenagoa during a flowery tribute that he paid his former national security adviser, General Andrew Owoye Azazi, at Azazi’s burial.

President Jonathan: attitude v corruption

President Jonathan stressed the need for attitudinal change among Nigerians for things to work and the country make progress.

His remark was provoked by the comment made by the Rt. Rev. Hyacinth Egbebo, the Catholic Bishop of Bomadi, who attributed the cause of accidents on Nigerian roads to bad roads created by corruption in government.

The president rejected the submission and instead retorted, “If Nigerians would change their attitude, you will realise that most of these issues being attributed to corruption are not caused by corruption.

“Recently, I met with officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps who told me that they had discovered that majority of the road accidents are recorded on good roads.

“So you can see it is not a matter of corruption, it is an issue of the people’s attitude.’’

.Do you agree with Nigeria’s President on this perspective?. Let’s read your submission hear.

I agree with U GEJ that THE ATITTUDINAL CHANGE IS ON THE PART OF LEADERS WHO SIPHON OUR MONEY LEAVING US WITH THECABALS TO HIGH AND DRY SO GOOD ROAD OR BAD ONE IS NOT THE ISSUE PLS DECLARE WHAT YOU WORTH MR. GEJ.

  4. what did you expect from a man like gej? he just said his feelings and to him the poor masses are the cause of nigeria’s corruption and the islamist killings, can’t you realise that he is living in a different world? i pity you mr jonathan, may the good GOD lay hands on you for the sake of the poor nigerians.

WHAT A SHAME!!!!! THE ONLY WAY THIS COUNTRY CAN MOVE FORWARD IS TO REVOLT AGAINST THIS EVIL LEADERS IN POWER

Mr. Presido has captured it correctly ! Corruption is an attitude: state of the mind, mind bending, crookedness, deprivation , gain at others expense, wickedness, evil designs and deals! Once they all stop this there would be no Corruption. Osita can not give a correct report of Nigerian roads because his mind is skewed towards amassing wealth….Attitude! So you see we are in charge of our attitude…and can change it: It is your attitude, not aptitude that determines your ultimate altitude.

Please do not criticize Presidooo but appreciate him! Has he not tried?

Mr President should for once tackle issues and halt lamenting or painting the nature of our problems to us, he understands these problems are there before he came to power whether attitude or corruption or looting. We want him to fix things, Nigeria is paying him alot of money and making him comfortable with all things of life with the absolute power to do his job hence it is not fair that he will keep complianing to us the common people how helpless he is
He should remember that his office is not cabinet system but presidential and that translate into the fact that the country will blame him severly for his ineptitude, there is no sharing of failure with him so also if he suceeds no sharing of success with him as well. Enough of his nagging our ears hurt already. Mr President sit down and work and stop complaining about Nigeria, you ad us know our problems already before we voted for you

SO THIS THIS THEY SAID ABOUT JONATHAN IS TRUE ? THAT HE IS A CLUELESS DUNDERHEAD AND A DRUNK . YES ONLY A MAN OF SUCH A CHARACTER CAN BE BLAMING NIGERIANS THE VICTIMS OF HIS VERY CORRUPT ADMINISTRATION.

The President has drank from the cup of his predecessors and been bitten by the bug of BLAME THE POOR for the problem of Nigeria. The Bishop told him the truth which he does not want to hear. Our leaders have failed to know that facilities like roads are for them and us and so if properly done everyone benefits and if improperly done everyone loses. So let them continue to siphon money meant for these and suffer the effects. It happened to a former Minister of works who died in a road accident due to ill-maintained road. They now resort to flying because of fear of bad roads. Now their sins shall continue to haunt them. This is food for thought for all corrupt leaders in a country without laws and morals.

God, when is this our president going to wake up? Is he going to be asleep through out the duration of his presidency? This president definitely needs prayer. People should continue to pray for our president so that he can wake up and see what we are all seeing. Is this a case of self denial or what?

  12. well the president is simply a good-lucky confused MAN.
He should also tell us how many people have his regime has sanction for attitudinal offences.

He has an attitude issue himself, if he has self worth he would have resigned so that those who have better attitude will lead us rightly!

well shame on d president. im glad he travel overseas n own properties overseas. if overseas was like nigeria, will they be buying properties overseas? let them make nigeria like london, usa or canada n see if any of this so called problem we face on roads, crime and other daily issue will still occur. how many roads in nigeria have street signs? how many roads in nigeria has road tracks? whats d use of road safety if they cant provide d basic need of our roads? if even they are not to grade d road, but as road safety its there duty to make sure we have road signs in all our roads. cos if we have road signs,it will reduce accident to a minimum of 90percent. we also need to expand our roads. in nigeria i always here them saying they will tar d road so it can b motorable. in overseas they dont say tar, u construct or rather build d road. cos roads are like building houses. it also has to do with designs and all that is needed to make it safe for users. so jonathan that claims he has phd shld start talking like one. cos he sounds too dull for a lady. he talks like someone with lack of ideas and vision for a nation. if he means well for d country, his policies will be very clear to d nation that we as citizens can follow up and know what to expect at what time. shame of d leaders. bunch of thugs and gangstars..

President Jonathan is an educated illiterate; his theory about corruption shows that he is corrupt and he can’t do anything about it. What should Nigerians be expecting from him at this stage? Absolutely nothing!!! A bad tree (PDP) can never produce a good fruit. I am not saying other parties are not corrupt, but PDP led government is the instrument of corruption. God shall visit all Nigeria evil politicians with his wrath, and devil their father shall destroy them all. Mr. President, if you can’t fight corruption, that means you are a failure.

  15. ATTITUDINAL CHANGE is correct as propounded by presd.GEJ but such s change shld start 4rm ASO ROCK

Nigerians until we stop blaming something for our failure then we can move forward. we have a bad attitude as follower and that gives the leaders advantage to do what they are doing. letslook beyond our nose and we shall see. we al celebrate rich looter in our soceity yet we complain pple are looting. abah! this man is working, i went to ibadan from lagos reently youcan see how the drivers are driving, some will even get drunk especially in Lagos were sale of alchol in can is rampant. the drivers wants to make many returns. i entered a car that was not good enough and the driver insist on puting it on the road to Abuja. pls lets always know were curroption is biting us not just blaming someone because you cant meet the excesses of ur life. now we read in the paper of the recent launching of the rail system to kano from lagos has anyone reseach on that? close to N5b was approved for the trains to be used. has these train been bought? order placed, to what stage? even the civil soceity what are the doing to assist and not criticising, recently nigerians filling stations are not selling fuel in speculation for prx hike, is that presidency also? our brothers are the ones killing us. everybody wants to hammer…….. turn to God and help ur nation and ur brother. u will die one day no matter the money u gatjered and the bible says fools gathhered wealth wout knowing who he is going to leave it for. i have been in lagos for close to 3months now all the churches i have attended no one is praying for the situation in the north only self. GEJ is right. even on personal success attitude is optimum. if we have right attitude then we will soon produce good leaders but if the follower remain what they are, am sorry our situation may grow worse but Heaven forbid. God help us.

AS BAD & UNINTELLIGENT AS U PEOPLE MAKE GEJ SEEM HE IS IMPROVING UR ELECTRICITY, GIVE HIM SOME MEASURE OF RESPECT HE’S OUR PRESIDENT

  19. Nbeki

GEJ, is a total failure of the institution he represent. He once said he had no shoes, today we have given him shoe, he said he had no enemise, he (GEJ) made us his Enemies, finally in the open, we are the problem of the Nigeria state. Well, in all, we thank u for folishly voting you, we now understand better, you can continue with your Tony Anene and make him the chairman BOT of NPA. Those are the people with good attitude.

  20. revolutinary answer

it is really unfortunate that a clueless president has no clear view of the problem bedevilling this good nation.oh no another wasted four years seems to be real

  21. 10/10

The bad and ineffective leader in nigeria continue rundown nigeria economy

  22. Yoruba Proverbs

President Jonathan is partially right; but our recommendation to him as a good leader is for him to start living exemplary life. Let him begin by declaring his own asset to the public. Let us remind him that some of these bad roads had been awarded to some construction companies on paper in the past; that had been reported done without any repair. If corruption is dealt with in the lives of only 75 percent of civil servants, the attitude of general public will surely change.
