Basketball: Rookies Tourney Ends In Lagos  print

After five days of competition among participating teams, the 2012 ipNX Rookies Basketball Tournament will come to an end on Sunday at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, reports Bamidele Olowosagba.

The annual tourney, organised for players within ages 14 and 18, featured 14 teams from Lagos and Delta States.

In yesterday’s matches, Rookies team lost to Raptors Academy by 23-27 points in the U-14 category, while Warriors Academy outdunked Timberwolves by 42-22 points in the U-18 event.

Action continues today in the U-18 category, as the Warriors Academy confront Rookies Team A, while High Flyers and Rookies Team B play each other in the U-16 category. Raptors Academy and Rookies Academy will slug it out on the court in the last match of the U-14 category.

Tournament Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Mark Balogun said that the competition has continued to grow since the first edition was held in 2010, adding that all the winners in all the categories would be presented with attractive prizes on Sunday.
