Emir of Dukku dies

The remains of the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Abdulkadir Rasheed, were on Tuesday interred in Dukku, in Nigeria’s north eastern state of Gombe.

His emirate covers a council area also known as Dukku local council, with a population of 200,000 people. It is located about 80km from the state capital of Gombe.

Alhaji Bala Mohammed, the Secretary of the Dukku Emirate Coouncil said the emir, who died at the ripe age of 91, had three wives, 53 children and many grand children.

He said that the emir died on Monday night at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gombe, following a protracted illness.

Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State and other top government officials attended the funeral prayer.

Some dignitaries at the prayer include the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, and the Emir of Kaltungo, Alhaji Sale Mohammed.

After the prayer, Dankwambo commiserated with the deceased’s family and the people of the state.

He said that the country would always remember the late emir for his immense contributions to nation-building efforts.
