Nigeria’s new governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero was sworn in today as the substantive governor of Kaduna state, whose governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, died in a military helicopter crash

Yero was sworn-in by the Chief Judge, Justice Rahila Cudjoe at 1.10pm at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House amidst mixed reactions of sorrow and joy from the large crowd that witnessed the occasion.

Yero took over as the new Kaduna helmsman after the sudden death of Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa yesterday in a the ill-fated Navy Helicopter that crashed in Nembe , Bayelsa State, after attending a burial ceremony for the father of a presidential adviser, Oronto Douglas.

After the oath taking, Yero promised to sustain the vision of his late boss’s vision to secure, unite and develop Kaduna state.

Sambo was nominated and later appointed by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the Vice President, Yakowa was elevated to the position of Kaduna governor and he picked Yero as the Deputy Governor.

Born 1 May, 1968, Yero who hails from Zaria had his primary school education at LEA Kaura between 1974 to 1980. After this, he he went to Government secondary school, Ikara from 1980 to 1985. He completed his secondary school education at Government Day, Zaria in 1986.

Yero went to Institute of Administration, ABU, Zaria 1986 to 1991 where he bagged BSC degree in accountancy. He had his M.BA also in ABU in 2003.

He did one year service at Ogun State Bulk Purchasing Corporation, in Abeokuta in 1991. He started his working career at the bursary department of ABU in 1992.

In 1993, he joined the defunct Nigeria Universal Bank limited and left in 1997. He then joined Nalado Nigeria Limited, a company owned by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo as chief accountant. He rose to become Director Finance and Administration, a position he was holding till his appointment as commissioner of finance in 2007.

His simplicity endeared him to many politicians in both Kaduna and Abuja.
