Pay-TV firm, MultiChoice Nigeria, celebrates young entrepreneurs driving its super-dealership initiative

When, in 2007, pay-TV company, MultiChoice Nigeria introduced its super-dealership scheme, it had one core objective: nurture young and independent entrepreneurs who would ultimately create vast employment opportunities for jobless Nigerian youths.

In the course of developing the super dealers, MultiChoice, promoters of the DStv and GOtv cable TV brands, provided wide-ranging mentorship and trainings to the business-minded people on how to develop sound business plans. It also assisted them in accessing the needed finance, as well as provided marketing and brand support.

Five years after, the initiative has achieved much of its central aims with the super dealers controlling ventures yielding seven-digits profits and employing hundreds of hitherto jobless youths across the country. Through driving the MultiChoice brands and offering allied services that were hitherto the exclusive preserve of the company’s headquarters, the super dealers are also smiling in their various thriving ventures scattered in different parts of the country.

For playing their part well in helping to realise the MultiChoice vision of boosting employment generation and growing the Nigerian business space, the enterprising super dealers were recently feted by the pay-TV company in Lagos. At the second edition of the MultiChoice Dealers Awards held on 24 November, the company rewarded the dealers for staying true to the company’s vision over the last one year. Many outstanding dealers got mouth-watering prizes in an award ceremony that ran into the night.

The awards were in 14 categories. While some dealers got special recognition, some others carted home eye-popping prizes for their outstanding sales performance and keeping with the company’s innovative standards in the outgoing year.  The prizes on offer included cash gifts, 20KVA generators, computer sets, motorcycles, office equipment, four Ford Focus cars, two Toyota Hilux vans and all-expense-paid luxury holiday trips abroad, including trips to the Sun City Resorts in South Africa, the 2013 African Cup of Nations, also in South Africa and the English Premier League matches.

The biggest prize went to the super dealer in charge of the Lagos zone, Radac Communications, who won in the Highest Sales Nationwide category. The dealer won a Toyota Hilux van and a luxurious holiday – a cruise through three European countries – plus $5,000 spending money. Four other super-dealers, including Slate Communications Intesat Limited and Kazzy Telecoms, also rode home brand new Ford Focus saloon cars for achieving the highest sales figures in their various regions across the country.

Kazeem Alase, who heads Kazzy Telecoms, the Super-Dealer, Southwest region, spoke of his excitement at the car gift, which he said, “came as a surprise”, and the recognition given their efforts. “I feel very elated that my hard work is recognised. It’s a challenge for me to work harder next year to surpass even this year’s performance,” he said.

Three other super-dealers – Jegfav Nigeria Limited, Radac Communications and First Regional – each got $10,000 cash prizes in the Highest Sales, DStv; Highest Sales GOtv; and the Most Compliant (Chairman’s Award) categories respectively.

Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe described the awards as a medium for the company to celebrate the dealers and the Nigerian entrepreneurship spirit.
