awards on Sunday as their Alma Mata, Government College Bida marked its centenary

Also honoured were as former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. M. I Wushishi, retired Col. Sani Bello, Malam Awwal Ibrahim, the Emir of Suleja.

Alhaji Muhammad Ndayako, the 9th Estu Nupe, and late Amb. James Kolo, who was to deliver the centenary lecture but died few days before the celebration, received post humus award.

Bello said that the centenary was aimed at keeping the legacy of the school alive.

He commended individuals and corporate bodies for their donations toward the rehabilitation of the school structures.

He commended the Central Bank of Nigeria for rehabilitating the IBB Library, eight blocks of classrooms, chemistry, physics and multi-purpose laboratories and the construction of the five-bed clinic.

“Other items included the provision of a dedicated 500KVA transformer, solar light points at strategic locations, a new surface water tank and general reticulation of water to the hostel and classroom areas.

Bello said the school received assorted books worth N32 million through the contribution of Messrs A.D Forbes and J.K Staley.

He explained that the donor were Europeans who taught in the college for 40 years and visited in 2008.

He said the introduction of School Based Management Committee was a welcome idea, stressing that it would enable the old boys to become active participants in the management of the college.

“We have been itching to be part of the management of the college in order to ensure that the college infrastructure are adequately protected and regularly maintained,’’ he said.

Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the recipients, commended the old boys for the honour and pledged on behalf of others to work to keep the college legacy alive.
