The Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed intention to file a petition against the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, if the anti-corruption agency does not improve in its handling of the ongoing trial of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji.

The party also berated members of the House of Assembly who suspend sittings on the days of the Speaker’s trial, claiming solidarity.

The party’s threat to file a petition against the EFCC is over the five consecutive adjournments of the trial which has been blamed on what it termed “the unbelievable indisposition” of the EFCC lead Counsel, Mr. Godwin Obla.

The state publicity secretary of the party, Taofik Gani, in a statement made available to P.M.NEWS, noted that the allegations and trial are too serious to be dragged or indeed frustrated by the prosecution.

The party warns that the prosecutor’s manner of seeking adjournments in the matter can lead to the striking out of the case, adding that this can only be done to satisfy the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

“We strongly believe that the Speaker and ACN have the sympathy of the EFCC prosecution team as presently constituted, otherwise there won’t be indiscriminate calls for adjournment in a matter that the presiding Judge, Okechukwu Okeke, is serious to dispense with on time. It may be a ploy for the case to be struck out for want of due diligence,” he stated.

The party has thus admonished the EFCC to prosecute the matter diligently, without fear or favour as Lagosians and indeed Nigerians are monitoring same.
