Mrs. Coker was rescued by residents of the estate but her two girls died before they could be rescued. The mother was rushed to the hospital where doctors are now battling to save her life.

When P.M.NEWS visited the scene, sympathisers gathered in front of the collapsed building, discussing the tragedy. Some of the residents expressed fears that a similar fate might befall them because of the poor condition of their own houses.

Another resident, Mr. Kola said if government did not take steps to rebuild the estate, Lagosians should expect more casualities.  “Most of these buildings are between two and 11 years old and they are collapsing already,” he disclosed.

He also blamed the tragedy on lack of supervision by the government agency responsible for housing in the state.
