Governor Olusegun Mimiko has overwhelmingly won 12 out of the 15 local councils in the results declared Sunday morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

There are three councils in the riverside areas of Ilaje left to be declared in the governorship election yesterday, according to the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, Professor Adebiyi Daramola.

Of the released results, Mimiko garnered 228,974 votes, 8,000 votes less than the combined votes of the two major rival candidates.

The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN standard bearer Rotimi Akeredolu, who won in two local councils trailed a distant second with 119,992 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Olusola Oke has recorded 116, 383 votes with victory in one local council. Together, the ACN and PDP candidates polled 236,375 votes.

According to Section 179 subsection [1] b] of the 1999 Constitution, as amended: “A candidate for an election to the office of Governor of a State shall be deemed to have been duly elected if he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the local government areas in the State. Mimiko has so far met the constitutional requirement to be returned as governor.

Yesterday, many residents of Akure, the state’s capital were roused into great jubilation as results from various units were announced. Little wonder, the LP’s chance shone brightest in Akure South LGA where Governor Mimiko fished a whopping 49,915- the highest votes from a LGA.

The massive votes from Akure,in Ondo Central Senatorial district seemed compensatory for Mimiko whose administration is credited with its turn-around.

I am sure very many of u guys have no traces, u guys doesn’t like Obasanjo ,and hate Tinubu whom will u accept as ur leader,Troops without commander will go astray in the battle field.
U guys must learn how to respect elders despite differences in political affiliation , now since u people are trying to condemned Tinubu now please tell us another person we will point to as our leader in Yorubaland. .

  11. Olumide

If we want to reform this country, the best place to start is to be able to choose our leaders freely and I think this is a positive step in the right direction. Congrats to Dr. Mimiko and the people of Ondo State.

  12. popdele

  13. Kayode

@YEMI OLA, people like you think using your anus and not your head. So must we allow Tinubu or Obasanjo to misrule the Yorubas because we need leaders? Some one like you even if you are removed from cage or prison you will appeal to go back and remain there. No wonder there are people who does not desire freedom from bondage and poverty and you are among them.Yoruba people need true and honest leaders not hypocritical and selfish rulers who only think about themselves and their families and cronies.I congrats Mimiko and the good people of Ondo state for seeing Light and walking in it and not following darkness as the status quo.

  14. daramola alaba

  15. iyiola

all western states should take after ondo state as ACN is only to enrich one man. Yoruba need to break loose from another Adedibu before is too late. ACN is doing more harm than good. we need leader without God fathers. some who will utilise our resources on the citizens not giving the whole contract to only mr T. you know now…… oju yobo

  16. Alex Ausi

Before now, I personally admired TInubu as a dogged fighter but his outing and utterances in support of his party’s nominee was nothing but disaster. For somebody of his status behaving like a common thug was highly disgraceful. He’s advise to have a re-think and review his approach to human management as his better side could still be an asset to YOruba race.
