Port Harcourt 4: Police parade murder suspects

Nigeria’s Rivers Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the alleged killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, in Aluu community.

The suspects included 12 males aged between 20 years and 59 years and a female, Miss Lucky Orji.

Parading the suspects before journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammad Indabawa, said the nature of the crime prompted the parade.

“The gruesome manner in which the crime was committed coupled with the direct and glaring involvement of some of these suspects and the interest generated by the heinous crime left the police with no option than to parade them,“ he said.

Indabawa said that out of the number, two persons suspected to have participated actively in the killing were arrested on Oct. 15.

He said that the command was ready to fish out the perpetrators of the killing, adding that “no suspect will be spare out if arrested’’.

The commissioner urged the youths in the state to shun crime and work for the betterment of the state and country at large.

One of the suspects, Mr Louis Amadi, also known as Kapoon, said he was not involved in the killing, but only used belt to beat them.

Louis, who is an indigene of Ikwere in the Ikwere Local Government Area of the state, said the killing was regrettable to him.

Mr Segun Lawal, another suspect from Ogun, who is a taxi driver said he was not around when the incident happened.

Lawal described the killing as “outrageous and heartless“ and said that he had never killed somebody and had no intention of killing human beings.

The four students were killed in the Aluu community in Ikwere Local Government Area of the state on October 5, triggering national and international outrage.
