Police IG, bankers meet on security

Nigeria’s the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar on Tuesday in Abuja briefed bank executives and their security teams on measures the police had taken to protect their investments.

Mr Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, who briefed newsmen on the meeting, said the participants also discussed ways of providing added security for banking operations.

Frank said the meeting was targeted at evolving new solutions to contemporary security challenges in the banking sector and other financial houses.

“The meeting looked at ways of securing banking investment and facilities, protecting bank workers and customers as well as the police officers guarding banks,’’ he said.

Frank said the police took the measure as part of the IGP’s reform agenda, which includes a continuous partnership with corporate organisations and individuals, aimed at strengthening the concept of “policing the citizens by the consent of the citizens’’.

He said the bank executives who attended the meeting pledged their commitment to playing their role in the new reform and to supporting the police to enhance the general security of the nation.

All the banks in Nigeria were represented at the meeting.
