The Kogi state House of Assembly elected a new speaker today, impeaching Abdullahi Bello and ten other principal officers.
The new speaker is Lawal Jimoh.
According to reports, the former Speaker had a running battle with some lawmakers who had been plotting to remove him from office.
It is not clear how many lawmakers were at Tuesday morning’s sitting as the House was not set to sit until Thursday.
The Minority Leader of the assembly, Yori Afolabi, was quoted by Channels TV to have warned against the desperate attempt to remove the leadership of the House, with the encouragement of the executive arm of government.
