Wrestling: Mctracker Club Win Lagos Inter-Club Tourney

Mctracker Wrestling Club have emerged overall winners of the 2nd Lagos State Senior Inter-Club Wrestling Championship, held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Wrestlers from the club won most of the medals, while Laotem and Kirikiri Wrestling Clubs, came second and third respectively.

In the 84kg, David Makinde won gold with Festus Philip and Segun Adeniyi settling for the silver and bronze medals.

Segun Agbogu also won gold in the 74kg freestyle; Ugo Peter took silver leaving the bronze to Gideon Balogun, just as Segun Adebanwo displayed great wrestling skills to be crowned the undisputed champion in the 55kg, beating Olubade Folawole and Julius Adekunle to the second and third positions respectively.

John Ulu showed class in the 60kg category and went home with the gold at the expense of Edger Davis and Alex Omosanwe.

In the female category, Seyi Ogunbanwo defeated other wrestlers to win gold in the 72kg, while Funmi Olas and Sanusi Olaito went home with silver and bronze medals.

Also in the 48kg contest, Bilikat Subairu emerged champion with Chioma Anazodo and Ghanaian wrestler, Mausi- Vialla settling for the second and third positions.

Presenting trophies and certificates to the athletes, Chairman of Technical Committee of Lagos State Wrestling Association, Babatunde Fatai- Williams commended the coaches and athletes for embracing the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament. He charged them to intensify efforts in their training to ensure that Lagos State emerge the overall winners in wrestling event of the forthcoming National Sports Festival.

The championship, which was put together by the Lagos State Wrestling Association was organised to prepare athletes for the 2012 National Sports Festival to be hosted by the state.
