Kaduna police detonates bomb

Democracy Day in the Nigerian city of Kaduna would have been a bloody affair but for the swift response of the Police that helped to detonate a bomb kept in a black polythene bag within the compound of Kaduna State Transport Authority,KSTA this morning.

The suspected polythene bag loaded with explosives was noticed by residents of Katsina Road area around 7a.m. They raised an alarm.

An eye witness and daughter of the woman, who runs the KSTA canteen, Ngozi Okonkwo told P.M.News that they had opened the shop to start cooking when someone shouted ” leave your shop, there is bomb ” .

According to her, all the canteen staff thought it was a false alarm, until the police came and detonated the content of the bag around 7.30a.m before they confirmed it was indeed a bomb.

The alarm raised by residents caused pandemonium within the metropolis. Commuters, traders at the Sheikh Gumi Market and other road users plying Ahmadu Bello Way scampered for safety before the police anti bomb squad arrived at the scene and detonated the bomb.

The Police Public Relations Officer,Aminu Lawan, who confirmed to P.M.News that the bomb was successfully detonated urged the public to be vigilant and go about their normal business .
