13 Illegal Aliens Nabbed

The police in Kano have arrested 13 Nationals of Niger Republic for allegedly entering the country without valid entry documents.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, said this while briefing newsmen in Kano on Thursday.

He said the suspects were arrested on May 8 during a raid along Beirut road in Kano metropolis.

“The raid was carried out at about 9.30 p.m. to check criminal activities within the area.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects were discovered to have come from Niger Republic without valid entry documents and they do not have any means of livelihood or housing.”

He said all the 13 persons had since been transferred to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kano Command, for further necessary action.

Idris also said that the command had within the last two weeks, arrested five persons for allegedly raping minors and would soon be charged to court.

Similarly, he said, the command had during the period arrested six persons in possession of fake foreign currency amounting to 7,900 U.S. dollars.He said the command had recorded seven cases of armed robbery, theft of motor vehicles and car snatching in addition to intercepting two trucks loaded with crude oil.

The commissioner also disclosed that the Explosives Ordinance Department of the command had defused over 600 cans and 20 medium drums of Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs) in different parts of Kano metropolis. He commended the people of the state for the support and cooperation they had been giving to the command and urged them to maintain it. (NAN)
