Cable Vandal Electrocuted

A yet to be identified suspected cable vandal has been electrocuted at Umugama Village, Umuchu Community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria.

The police in Anambra state have mounted an intensive manhunt for the likely accomplices of the middle-aged man who was found electrocuted last weekend while trying to steal some cables beside a transformer at Umugama village.

The incident, according to the villagers, occurred Saturday night when the deceased and his accomplices cut the iron mesh cublicle fencing the transformer.

The late youngman had allegedly succeeded in cutting the cables connected to the transformer before he was electrocuted.

It was yet to be ascertained how many other accomplices were involved or if he acted alone. But his tools including big spanners, iron-cutters and metal saws were recovered by the police who were invited immediately to the scene of the incident.

The community leader, Chief Chris Ezeuka who spoke to journalists said they woke up to see the lifeless body of the man beside the transformer together with the vandalized cables, saws and iron-cutters.

Ezeuka said this was the second time the transformer or its cables were being vandalized within one year.

When the journalists visited the border community linking Anambra and Imo states on Monday, the officials of the Power Holding Company PLC from the nearby unit were seen taking inventory of the vandalized items.

They declined comments on the incident. The Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the incident, adding that full investigation into the incident has commenced.
