Nigerian student Docked for wearing army camouflage

A 28-year-old student, Tijani Aliyu, has been arraigned before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for wearing a Nigerian Army uniform.

Sgt. Ahmed Mohammed, prosecuting, told the court that the case was reported by one Ahmed Hamza of the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Guards Brigade, Asokoro, at Maitama Police station.

Mohammed said that some soldiers on patrol on 28 February arrested the accused, for wearing the Nigerian Army camouflage trouser to claim that he was a soldier.

He added that the camouflage trouser was recovered from the accused.

According to the prosecutor, the wearing of the uniform contravened Section 133 of the Penal Code.

However, when the case came up for mention, the accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by the Senior Magistrate, Hauwa Aliyu, in the sum of N100, 000.

Aliyu ordered the accused to produce one surety in like sum, who must be a civil servant of any salary grade level and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to March 27 for hearing
