The Supreme Court has thrown out a legal challenge by Felix Amadi, candidate of the African Political System Party, against Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s victory at the April 2011 governorship election in Rivers State.

Amadi had filed the suit claiming that he was unlawfully omitted and excluded from contesting the election.

The case which had been dropped at the Election Petition Tribunal and subsequently the Appeal Court was Friday thrown out by the Supreme Court for lack of merit.

In his reaction, Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi described the judgment as a vindication of his victory at the polls and gave God the glory.

Governor Amaechi stated this in a press statement by his spokesman, Mr. David Iyofor.

The judgement, Iyofor emphasized, has once again shown clearly the hand of God in the administration of Governor Amaechi.

“Right from the inception of the Amaechi administration, the hand of God has been clearly visible. This is a victory for democracy, it is a victory for the rule of law and a victory for Rivers people,” Iyofor said.
