Tension mounted this morning as youths within Yaya Abatan and its environs blocked every road in and out of Yaya Abatan, Ogba, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, as they prepared for a candle light tonight for their colleague, Demola Abiodun who was shot by a DPO Monday during the nationwide protest.

P.M.NEWS checks revealed that from the County Bus stop to Aguda leading to Yaya Abatan, youths have blocked most of the streets following messages that slain Demola would be honoured tonight by Youths of Ifako-Ijaye.

Motorists, except the press, were turned back from all the streets, while hundreds gathered to discuss how to effectively organise the candle light.

A youth leader, Mr Olamide Ayodele, informed P.M.NEWS that the youths would never forget the slain Demola in a hurry and would love to keep his memory alive by giving him this befitting candle light.

“Already, as you can see, we have mobilised youths in the area to honour Demola, while waiting for the response of the government.”

Continuing, Olamide said: “We have invited the council chairmen and the executive governor of Lagos State to come and address the youths. For now, we advise people living within this area to be on the alert. It is going to be like a carnival.”

When P.M.NEWS visited the area this morning, the spot on which Demola was killed was cordoned off with black cloth in preparation for the candle light.

There was no presence of the police or any security personnel.
