People of ward ‘H’ Community, in Itire, Muslim local government area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have describe as shameful, local council election election results declared by chairman of Lagos state independent electoral commission (LASIEC) , Justice Fatai Afolabi Adeyinka (rtd).
The community was particularly piqued by a statement credit to the LASIEC chairman, to the effect that the election in ward ‘H’, Itire was inconclusive.
In a release, jointly signed by a veteran journalist, mr.Alex Oni and a lawyer, mr Debo Adekola, on behalf of the aggrieved people of ward ‘H’, Itire, it was stated that “the election was conclusive and the undisputed winner of the election was the PDP candidate, mr Fatai Bodunrin.â€
The release stated: “it is appalling and a shame too, that a political party adjudged democratic like the ACN, is behind election rigging and falsification of election result.
“An election was held, result signed by relevant authorities, only for the ACN established LASIEC led by justice Afolabi Adeyinka (rtd) to announce that the election was inconclusive.
“Ideed, the returning Officer of both ACN and PDP and a Divisional police officer (DPO) of a police station, acknowledged the result.
“it is pertinent to state here that Isiaka Toriola, the ACN candidate for the councillorship election in ward H, is no longer acceptable to the community. The entire came up because of the imposition of Toriola on the community,†the release stated.
The community described as “unacceptable†LASIEC’s stand that the election was inconclusive and that the idea of a re-run is equally unacceptable.
