Auto Crash In Lagos

There was heavy traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway this morning following an accident which occurred at the Oworo end of the road.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident told P.M.NEWS that the accident involving a Mazda commuter bus with registration number XL 772 KTU, was caused by brake failure.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the bus which was heading to the Adeniji Adele end of the Lagos Island from Ikorodu had 18 passengers who all sustained injuries and were undergoing treatment at the Gbagada General Hospital and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.

According to a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, who pleaded anonymity, the driver realised that the brake of the vehicle was not working when he got to the Berger area of Oworo.

In the ensuing confusion, he lost control of the vehicle which rammed into the culvert in the middle of the road, he said.

The victims of the accident were were rescued by other commuters who were waiting at the bus stop.

At the time of filing this report, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, were making effort to ease the traffic jamn on the road.
