Rivers House of Assembly Gets Speaker

Rivers State House of Assemby has elected a new Speaker.

He is Mr Otelemaba Amachree. Leyii Kwanee is his deputy.

The election of the new Speaker happened at the first meeting of the seventh Assembly.

The House later adjourned till Thursday, when other officers of the House would be elected.
After the inauguration of the new Assembly, the former Speaker of the House, who had served as Deputy Speaker in the first and second Assemblies, Tonye Harry, nominated Amachree, who hails from Asari-Toru local government area of the state, but of same Kalabari stock, as Speaker in his place.

Another member, Augustine Ngo, representing Abua/Odual Constituency of the state, nominated Layii Kwanee, who is returning to the Assembly after a season out, as Deputy Speaker.
