The Yoruba movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of a top actor and producer Ahmed Durojaiye a.k.a Alasari.

The late Alasari

P.M.NEWS learnt that Durojaiye was on his way to Lagos from his Abeokuta, Ogun State base to promote his new movies when the incident occurred yesterday.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the actor was travelling with three other persons when the back tyre of the Pathfinder SUV in which they were travelling busted around Onipepeye area of Ogun State.  The vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted several times.

The occupiers were rescued by some people and a colleague of Alasari named Dayo Amusa.

They were later taken to Federal Medical Centre, Ogun State where Alasari was confirmed dead while the three others sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the remains of the actor will be buried on Wednesday at his Abeokuta residence.

Some of the early callers to the home of deceased include Prince Jide kosoko, Muyiwa Ademola, Odulade Adekola, Dele Odule, Fausat Balogun, Sokoti,  Alhaji Akeem Balogun a.k.a. Olasco Films, Comrade Femi Jolayeml; Omega films and others.

The Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State-born actor, who is in his early 40s, is survived by one wife, four kids and an aged mother.

Commenting about the death of Alasari, the former governor of ANTP, Lagos State, Rammey Shita-Bey described the incident as “a terrible loss to the Yoruba movie industry.  He died when he was gaining prominence.”

Chairman Highwaves Video Mart, Rotimi Aina –Kushoro was in a state of shock when P.M.NEWS called him.

He said when he was returning from a trip he spoke with the actor in Ibadan who told him that he will be in Lagos yesterday morning.

“It is so sad,” he said.

Prince Jide Kosoko was still in a state of shock and could not speak with P.M.NEWS.  But some of his colleagues described the late Ahmed Durojaiye who is a member of Ogun State chapter of ANTP, as a very nice and easy going person.

Before his death Durojaiye was planning to release two movies titled ‘Omo Nite Club’ and ‘Iyanu’Part 2.
