The anti-piracy squad of the Yoruba video Film Producers Association of Nigeria, YOVIFPAN, in collaboration with the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, LSFVCB, have arrested 11 porn movie pirates.

The pirates, some of whom were identified as Abiodun Boyejo, Wale Sodiq, Ebube Chukwu, Dada Ramota and Olasukanmi Diran, were arrested at their printing factory at 3, Shonibare Street, Off Osolo Way, Isolo, Lagos.

They were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday and handed over to the policemen at Area D Police Command, Isolo. They were released later in the day on bail.

P.M.NEWS gathered that YOVIFPAN anti-piracy squad led by Shola Awoleye had been monitoring the activities of the pirates for sometime now and had been planning on how to bring them to book.

Awoleye confirmed the arrest of the pirates to P.M.NEWS but said he was surprised the police released them without consulting his association.

During the raid, millions of copies of porno films and other Nigerian films were recovered from the factory, which is being managed by a man called Mr. Uche.

“It is a big outfit where all manner of Nollywood films are being pirated. The most amazing of all is the porno films which the Lagos State government had kicked against.

“We could not confiscate all the films because they were so many. Even eight trailers would not load everything,” Awoleye said.

An executive of the LSFVCB further told P.M.NEWS that the board, under the directives of the Lagos State government, is combat ready to reduce piracy to the barest minimum.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola had warned all pirates, particularly those selling porno films to desist from the act or face the wrath of the law.

It was during the same period the governor made this declaration that men of the Lagos State Task Force clamped down on some nude clubs in the state.

When our reporter called Mr. Uche, the Manager of the raided factory at about 9.05 p.m yesterday, he denied knowing about the raid.

According to him, “I’m not in town, so I don’t know if anything like that happened. But I will call my MD to know how true it is.”
