The Borno Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says it has arrested 18  underage drivers plying roads within the metropolis.

Mr. John James, the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, disclosed this in an interview with the  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Monday.

He explained that the drivers, whose vehicles have been impounded, were also asked to pay a fine of  N5,000.

“This is on the basis that they have been responsible for the various road crashes in the state,”  he said.

James said the commission would no longer issue driving licenses to anybody until they passed a  refresher course conducted by Alheri Baba Driving School.

NAN reports that the driving school is the only one accredited by the Federal Government to offer  such services in Borno.

The commander noted that vehicle traffic and road crashes within the metropolis had reduced  drastically in recent times.

He ascribed that to the regulatory role the officers and men of FRSC had played, and advised  parents to desist from encouraging underage driving.
