Hundreds of thugs in Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday descended on a Toyota Previa bus belonging to Mr. Oyetunde Ojo, an in-law to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

It was gathered that the bus, branded in ACN colours and with Oyetunde Ojo’s photograph, was waylaid near Iwo road roundabout as the driver, Mr. Sunday Awe, was negotiating the roundabout on his way to an assignment in Ekiti State.

The driver disclosed that the bus, marked BP 696 AGL, was damaged and the thugs were about to lynch him when he managed to escape by making a detour to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Awe said: “The thugs blocked the bus shouting ‘he is Tinubu’s in-law. No, Tinubu or ACN cannot take over Oyo State.

“Worst still, when I managed to run to the police station at the old toll gate, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, refused to assist me. The only help he said he could render was to allow me call my boss. I did. My boss pleaded that he should provide security for me, which he bluntly refused.

“He said, ‘I cannot allow thugs to come and burn down my police station.’ He said I should go to the police station which has jurisdiction over the area where the attack took place.

But the police stations close to the scene of the attack were off the expressway. However, I managed to drive the bus to Lagos.” Speaking on the attack, Tinubu’s in-law, Oyetunde Ojo, who is an aspirant to the House of Representatives in Ijero-Efon-Ekiti west Federal Constituency of Ekiti State, said the attackers were after him but he was not in the vehicle. “They knew me to be Tinubu’s in-law,” he added.

He regretted that the police refused to perform their primary responsibility of providing security for lives and properties, especially as the next general election is around the corner.
