The Most Valuable Players, MVP of the Men and Women’s 2nd Korean Ambassador’s Cup  West African Taekwondo Championship, will go on training tour of South Korea.

The lucky Taekwondoists are Isa Adam and Omowa Omoregbe, who won the MVP awards of  the tournament held recently at the Indoor Sports Hall Package B of the National  Stadium in Abuja.

The athletes would be in South Korea next year to acquire more skill, exposure and  expertise to enable them compete favourably at global championships.

An elated Adam says he will not only commit himself to the sport, but eagerly  looking forward to the trip to Korea.

Assistant Manager, LG Electronics West Africa Operations, Sang Heon Song, sponsor of  the sub-regional championship, said the sponsorship of the championship, which  started in 2006, was born out of the company’s  conviction to encourage the  development of the sport in the country as well as other African countries.

Song said the tourney  afforded the company the opportunity to encourage talents and  passions of thousands of youths across the continent.

He noted that in the company’s continuous effort to add value and raise the standard  of sports activities in Nigeria, LG Electronics will always support good and  developmental programmes.

“LG Electronics’ support for taekwondo will go a long way in raising the standard as  well as create awareness that will stir the interest of not only the athletes but  our customers to become active participants in future competitions in Nigeria and  beyond.” Song noted.

The Minister of Sports, Isa Bio, expressed delight at the gradual but consistent  level of development that the game is experiencing in the country.

This, he said was made possible by the immense support given by corporate social  responsible companies like LG Electronics, which has consistently thrown its weight  behind the championship over the years.

Bio noted that it would enable Nigeria expand its horizon in the areas of sporting  activities and ability to win medals in future competitions like the All African  Games and Olympics.

He expressed satisfaction over the gifts items like Micro Wave Ovens, LCD TVs, DVD  players, KP500 and GX200 Mobile phones given to various winners at the championship  by the company.

Over 70 medals were won by the participants in the championship, while the winners  were full of praises for the sponsors.
