The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, is set to dispose 140 unclaimed corpses through mass burial if their relations fail to claim them within seven days.
Mr. Toye Akinrinlola, the UCH Chief Information Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ibadan that the corpses had been constituting health hazards to the hospital community.
He said: “We want the relations of the dead to help the hospital to keep a healthy environment. We have tried to overstretch our facilities because of the respect we have for the dead.
“But if the relations fail to claim the corpses at the stipulated time, the dead would be given a mass disposal.”
Akinrinlola said that out of the 140 corpses in the mortuary, 110 were babies, while 30 were adults between the ages of 18 and 65 years.
